Serendipity Frozen Hot Chocolate
 |
Serendipity Frozen Hot Chocolate has been a favorite for over 50 years at the Serendipity 3 Cafe in New York. Oprah made it an international must-have by saying it was one of her favorite things. Here is the recipe, and a variation. |
Serendipity Frozen Hot Chocolate
3 oz of your favorite chocolate, chopped or grated
2 t hot chocolate mix
1 1/2 T sugar
1 1/2 cups milk
3 cups ice
Whipped cream
Chocolate shavings
Melt the chocolate slowly in a double boiler (or really slowly in a saucepan). Add hot chocolate mix and sugar, and stir constantly until mixed. Remove from heat. Add 1/2 cup of the milk and stir until smooth. Let cool to room temperature.
In a blender, add the room temperature chocolate mixture, the rest of the milk, and the ice. Blend on high speed until smooth (about the consistency of a frozen daiquiri). Pour into a mug or goblet and top with the whip cream and chocolate shavings.
