Newman's Own Chocolate Reviews

I've been somewhat disappointed with Newman's Own chocolate thus far, which is too bad, because we always like to find organic and/or Fair Trade chocolates. Perhaps we haven't tried enough...

Sweet Dark

6.3.05
It is, like the name says, sweet. Too sweet. The first ingredient is sugar, not chocolate liquor, which always makes us wonder how "dark" the chocolate could be. Sugar would be an ingredient we'd expect to see first on a milk chocolate bar, but this doesn't have any milky smoothness to redeem it. Extra credit given for organic ingredients.
Our rating: 2.5 of 5 bon bons

Sweet Dark Orange Dark Chocolate

4.26.06
The orange oil in this masks the inferior chocolate flavor just enough to give this a higher rating than its counterpart, the plain Sweet Dark. There is a bit of an unpleasantly sweet aftertaste, but it's good enough to get a decent chocolate fix, and we like that it's organic, of course.
