5.9.05So creamy you just might think it’s fudge. I remember the first time I tasted milk chocolate – the real stuff, not the Hershey bar stuff. The kind where you could taste the milk. This bar evokes that – lusciously creamy and milky, it dissolves perfectly on the tongue. Fans of milk chocolate will not be disappointed. Fans of dark might briefly consider converting. This is one I frequently include in gifts. Our rating: 4 of 5 bon bons Dark Chocolate with Hazelnut and Currant 5.23.05"Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. That's very good." "Yeah, that's good." That was about all the eloquence your humble tasters could muster between bites. The chocolate by itself would have been delicious, but it is even more so with the accompanying waves of toasty hazelnut and sweet currant flavor. You couldn't do any better if you had a bowl of chocolate, fresh currants and hazelnuts. Our rating: 4.5 of 5 bon bons White 7.20.05Neither of us likes white chocolate, so we may be unqualified to judge this one. That said, it was better than any white I've had - very creamy, not unbearably sweet, and nice notes of vanilla. For a true white chocolate connoisseur it's probably 5 bon bons, but for us, a mere 3. Our rating: 3 of 5 bon bons Caramel 5.19.06Neither of us really likes milk chocolate. Neither of us really likes caramel, either. But boy oh boy, this was yummy. Green and Black's chocolate always satisfies, and the caramel blended in nicely. It helps that they use quality ingredients - no cheap oils or fillers. Be warned, though, that it's very sweet and rich, like a really good Easter candy, and would probably be best enjoyed with a glass of milk. A pleasant departure from our standard dark chocolate fare. Our rating: 4 of 5 bon bons Cocoa 10.31.06I'm not sure if I got a bad batch of this cocoa or what, but I was a bit disappointed by it. Perhaps it would have been better in baked recipes, but every time I had it I noticed a flavor that was a bit musty and bitter. I'm getting pretty good at whipping up a batch of hot cocoa from scratch, so I don't think it was the way I mixed it, and I haven't noticed that flavor with other cocoas. May have to give it another go in the future. Our rating: 3.5 of 5 bon bons Maya Gold Hot Chocolate Drink 11.15.06I enjoyed this a lot more than the drinks I had made with plain Green and Blacks cocoa. The more I had of this, the more I grew accustomed to its spicy orange flavor. The next time I had plain hot chocolate, I was a little disappointed! This is a tasty spin on the standard hot chocolate fare. The spice is just right- not too much but just enough to give it some zing.
