Yep, the FDA is actually considering redefining what can be called chocolate, so that manufacturers can make more money by replacing high quality ingredients with crummy ones that are really bad for you, like vegetable fats in place of cocoa butter. YUCK! Tell the FDA that we like the way chocolate is defined right now, thank you very much, and that the only entity they are helping is corporate America. These changes have NO benefit to the consumer, unless you consider awful tasting, cheap, unhealthy chocolate a benefit.

*sigh* We fear for the quality of Dagoba, not to mention the selective sourcing of their cacao. Hershey doesn't seem to care about organic or Fair Trade- they seem to care about mass production and profit. Another artisan chocolate maker gone. *sigh*

Remember the days when stamps had to be licked? You're going to want to do that again, now that Hershey's Kisses are featured on the USPS Valentine's Day stamps for this year (the 100th birthday of Hershey's Chocolate). They're pretty cute (even if they are a tacit endorsement by the Feds of a commercial product!!).

Tried the chocolate-covered cinnamon Altoids, and though they are good, they aren't anywhere near as tasty as the peppermint. I refuse to try the ginger ones.

Apparently Hershey is diving into the gourmet chocolate market with select origin bars... this oughta be interesting!! I couldn't find any at my local grocery last night, but will keep my eyes peeled. Meanwhlie, check out their website, which includes topic headings SUSPICIOUSLY SIMILAR to the ones on this site! Hmmm. Not sure I like that! Ah, well.

Yum. Yum Yum. A friend gave me a box of curiously strong Altoid peppermints covered in DARK CHOCOLATE, and mmmmmm. If you like peppermint and chocolate together, give these a try. I don't usually like "chocolate covered" things because the chocolate quality is generally poor, but I have no complaints about these! You can find the cinnamon and ginger Altoids varieties in chocolate covered versions too.

For a similar taste, try Trader Joe's Perppermint Reception Sticks.

After three weeks of not being able to drive to my house, and instead having to schlep 100 yards or so over packed snowdrifts to get to the car, I am beginning to understand cabin fever! Thankfully, I had plenty of cocoa on hand, and have been experimenting with recipes. Sometimes 2-3 cups a night! One thing I've found is that the brand of cocoa will definitely influence the amount you'll need for a perfect cup. If all else fails, though, Equal Exchange's Organic Hot Cocoa and Ghirardelli's Double Chocolate Cocoa will do the trick without any fancy mixing of ingredients.

Hooray!" Chocolove is one of our favorites. If you can't find them at your local grocer, try the big box store!

Rats. We were so excited to find Chocolove's Holiday Fruits & Nuts in Dark Chocolate Bar... it was DELICIOUS, appropriately spicey-fruity-festive, and at $3, a perfect little gift. We liked it so much, we went back to Whole Foods to buy more, and they were gone! Pooey. Check at a Whole Foods near you while supplies last, or beg for some from Chocolove themselves.
